What are your thoughts on the effects of fibre on weight loss? I've heard everything between "count it the same as regular carbohydrates" and "it counts as negative carbs because the metabolic effects actually outweigh the energy it contains."
I can't say I know enough about that to be sure. Although, I am wearing of labelling any type of food as inherently fattening/slimming because of the reasons in the article. It seems plausible to me that increased fibre might help with weight loss purely because fibre rich foods are usually satiating, but that's just a speculation on my part.
Huh, was just wondering about the whole seed oil thing, so thanks for the breakdown!
Is there causal evidence of the effects of whole grains on health outcomes?
I haven't found any for wholegrains specifically, just a lot of data similar to what I linked. However, we do have randomised control trials showing the benefits of fibre on blood pressure: https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Effects-of-dietary-fibre-type-on-blood-pressure%3A-a-Evans-Greenwood/d9fca421cc39df0a55ec854d99a4c7881f95af4a
And the benefits of fibre on cardiovascular risk factors: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9511151/
